THE BEACH BAR

THE STORY/RESULT

With almost no budget, we set out to create a bar and restaurant by the wild sea on Sweden's southeast coast.

We wanted to capture that free, summery vibe of a surf bar, but without the superficial and often contrived feel that many surf bars have, where the lifestyle feels more like a facade than a genuine experience. Instead, we aimed for something raw, authentic, and distinctly Swedish.

The colors, materials, and furniture were inspired by the beach—its white sand, wooden piers, vast sea, and the endless horizons of Österlen.

The dining area was intended to feel a little more refined, while the bar became a window into the owner's chaotic rock world. Here, he could let loose, displaying old LPs and unique pieces from his travels.

We wanted the place to feel open and inviting, a space for everyone. The food was comfort fare, designed to make people feel at home and at ease, while the drinks offered a brief escape from Österlen’s rugged beauty.

With nothing but an incredible location and a very bland, uninspiring interior left behind from the café that previously occupied the space, we got creative: surfboards from a neighbour, handmade tables crafted from a giant oak, second-hand furniture, and simple, cozy lighting.

Over time, the restaurant came alive, filled with live music and regulars. The somewhat sophisticated atmosphere gradually transformed into something more rock-and-roll, but the concept held strong throughout the transformation.
